Damaged People Become High Performers: Aldis Ozols, Latvian Entrepreneur in Ghana
Some people wait for perfect conditions before they act.
Others act first and adjust along the way.
In this episode of She Became CEO, I speak with Aldis Ozols, whose approach to life, language, and business is direct, pragmatic, and results-driven. His English is functional rather than polished, and that has never been a limitation for him. What matters is how effectively he uses it to move toward his goals.

Aldis is the author of Lose Millions, Win Life, a book shaped by his childhood in a Soviet Latvian village—by physical labor, scarcity, cold barns, and early responsibility—and by the years that led him far beyond Latvia, eventually rebuilding his life in Ghana. The book reflects on loss, survival, and the kind of drive that forms early and doesn’t fade easily.
He wrote the book in English by first writing down his thoughts and then working with a ghostwriter. He asked his son to record the audiobook. He focused on the outcome rather than the mechanics, assembling the support he needed to bring the book into the world.
The first signed copy sold for $10,000. Several more sold for $5,000. Aldis did not keep the money. He donated it to volunteers in Ghana who clean trash from roadsides and beaches—people whose work is essential and largely unseen. The gesture strengthened his reputation and extended the reach of his message.

This conversation touches on childhood damage, high performance, and rebuilding life across continents, but it never becomes abstract. It stays grounded in action: deciding what matters, identifying what you can do yourself, and finding efficient ways to achieve what lies beyond your current skill set.
The episode is a reminder that intelligence does not always look refined, and effectiveness does not require convention. Sometimes it shows up as clarity of intent, resourcefulness, and follow-through.
